| SpeakUp MN on Sabbatical
As many of you have noticed, SpeakUp MN has been on a break since late summer. Our working board of directors needed to step away from our Internet advocacy project for a few months. Now, we are saddened to tell you that, after much discussion and soul searching, we are putting SpeakUp MN on indefinite sabbatical.
Unfortunately, we have not found the volunteers we have been seeking to replace our efforts. And frankly, we are burned out. Our SpeakUp MN project has required many hours per week for several years, and we have found ourselves needing to change our time prerogatives.
We have learned much from our efforts. We believe that together with you we have influenced policy and political thought in our state over the past year. SpeakUp MN has been a success. We firmly believe that Internet organizing of progressive individuals for policy advocacy is the way of the future. All of us make a much louder noise when we speak together.
And SpeakUp MN is not dead. At any point, with the necessary time and talent, another group of progressives may once again bring SpeakUp MN back into action. Our programming, name and concept are also available to other states that may be interested.
For now, we want to thank you for your participation, advice and support and wish you the best in 2006. We are confident you will carry on in your convictions to bring back progressive values and policy to our great state.
We promise that we will also continue to stay active and fight for what we know to be true -- We not only have the right to Speak Up, we have a duty to do so.
